Who can perform Flight Renewals at Modern Air?
Derick Gunning is a CAA Flight Examiner for Single and Multi Engine Piston Aircraft.

Who is Derick Gunning?
Derick started flying in 1981 in Dallas, Texas on a three week intensive course. Since then he has acquired considerable experience under both CAA and FAA Fixed Wing and Helicopter licences but mainly flying Piper aircraft. You may also know him from his days running Derick S. Gunning VW/Audi/Porsche Specialists in Hertford from 1979 to 2002.

I only want to rent an aircraft for one particular mission - I have experience on type. Do I still need a check ride and club membership?
Yes - All rental pilots need to show their licence and medical validity and undertake a check-ride. We may offer temporary membership which includes signing the conditions of rental agreement.

Where did “Modern Air” originate from?
Derick learned to fly with Modern Aero Inc., Texas. Modern Air was founded at Fowlmere in 1990.

What training does Modern Air offer?
At present we can offer advanced training leading to an instrument meteorological conditions rating. We can introduce you to more aircraft from our rental fleet and hopefully to some new friends and places. After gaining your PPL additional ratings will enable you to fly more complex aircraft in more challenging weather conditions. The IMC. Rating: Instrument Meteorological Conditions Rating -enabling you to fly by sole reference to flight instruments within U .K. airspace in a suitably equipped aircraft (all our fleet have full instrument panels). Differences training for Retractable Undercarriage and Constant Speed Propellors can be conducted in the Saratoga.
